Our Challenge
We were commissioned by the five Birmingham Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) - Retail Birmingham, Westside, Colmore, Southside, and Jewellery Quarter - to create a unified brand campaign to showcase the city’s diverse districts.
Our challenge was to develop a place branding campaign that celebrates what makes each district unique while connecting them under a shared visual identity.
The Brief
Birmingham BIDs wanted a powerful city-wide brand that would:
Promote Birmingham as a vibrant place to visit, work, and live
Highlight each district’s individual character and culture
Engage residents, businesses, and visitors with a consistent message
Our Approach
We began by exploring the stories, heritage, and ambitions of each area. From the Jewellery Quarter’s historic workshops to Southside’s creative energy, we gathered insights that shaped our creative strategy.
We developed a bold, flexible visual system combining clean typography and distinctive photography. The designs allowed each district to maintain its own identity while clearly belonging to one city-wide campaign.
We also crafted a tone of voice that felt warm, confident, and inclusive – reflecting Birmingham’s spirit.
The Outcome
The Birmingham BIDs place branding campaign launched across digital, print, and outdoor channels. Each district used the new creative toolkit to promote local events, independent businesses, and public spaces.
The result was a cohesive brand that elevated Birmingham’s profile, encouraged local pride, and attracted visitors to experience all corners of the city.
